Scenes from The Village Voice
November 28, 2007 by smack
It happened today. Whatever it was, I felt that old confidence i USED to have. I felt open and killer on my phone interview, then i wrote a really good cover letter, and then I packed up some samples, the letter, my res, and my balls and I WALKED to The Village Voice. Oh, I got all cute, too. tights, stripey dress with some sparkle to it, and a black sweater over that. I swished on a bright red scarf, a big fat smile and some heels and off I went. On the way there I felt awkward and stumbly and I called Factor for support, but he was on a call. Part of me wanted to turn around but I kept visualizing the building and finally there i was, in front of The Village Voice building.
I walked in. There were two women standing there talking. so I said hi and smiled brightly. There was no guard and i was beginning to panic. If these women let me in, I wouldn’t know where to go… and there was no guard.. and I didn’t want to leave my package there unattended. I’d always wonder if it ever made it to the desk of my intended editor. Someone let us in.
One woman said “go ahead” and i walked in and said “I have no idea where I’m going”
“well what do you need” - really smooth voiced man
“I need to give something to [EDITOR I NEED]” - me smiling
“you’ll have to leave it with the guard then” - smoothie gestures toward the empty desk. I cringe inside.
“Hang on! You can leave it with me” - one of the women reaches her arm out of the elevator and opens the door, taking my envelope. “I’m his assistant”
“wow! thank you!” - smiles and door closes.
That’s good luck.
good luck, good luck, good luck!!! i am sending positive vibes to you!!
that just painted a really cute scene in my head
good things are in store for you…
I think that’s definitely a good sign.
