I have always loved Flickr. It does everything I want. I have my little friends on flickr. And the photos from random strangers are amazing. There are so many beautiful things happening on flickr that I had no qualms about paying to go pro a while ago (like, years. like, when I had a job). Which is why I am so disappointed in flickr uploadr 3.o (which we shall now refer to as “piece of crap upgrade”). Who tested this thing? They advert it as usability tested by the community, but honey, I’d LOVE to meet the people who thought the lag time, erroneous uploading, and disappearing “upload photos” button were incredible by design. It’s awful. It’s actually slower than just going to the upload page and uploading one by one. I’m so pissed that I unstalled this piece of crap upgrade. Granted the previous version had it’s nits, but it was fast, it was the POINT. If I wanted to slow down my uploading and see even more of a miniature of my picture while tagging and describing, I’d keep this piece of crap on my (Factor’s) computer. However, I use the web interface to write my descriptions anyway – the picture is larger, know what I mean? THAT makes sense. The point of having that little uploader guy TO ME anyway, if for quick batch uploading, tagging, and dumping into a set – for more detailed and time consuming work to be carried out on the web end.
Anyway, blah. Irked. I haven’t had a negative thought about Flickr until now. Not enough to make me head for the hills, but enough to make me start thinking.
your site is the first site that is listed when you do a google search for “flickr 3.0 uploadr sucks.” it’s nice to know that i’m not the only one that’s disappointed with it!
Ha! I love it! Seriously, though — it totally sucks butt, right? i want to poke my eyes out.
You can reinstall version 2, they have it available at http://www.flickr.com/tools/
Version 3 actually works for me, I’ve never had version 2, so I can’t compare. I uploaded a batch of 12 pictures, and they uploaded fine. They do seem to be releasing minor updates rather quickly, going from 3.0.0 to 3.0.1 to 3.0.2 in a few days, so there probably are still some kinks being worked out. But you can go back to version 2, and it will still work.
Hey…slight tangent to your topic. Maybe I missed it on a previous post, but have you ever published your Flickr ID here? I tried a few logical (to me) searches but came up empty. Based on the neat-o pictures in your blog, it would be cool to see more…
