Temping: a first glance review
January 16, 2008 by smack
So far, this is what happened:
- I get a call at 9am about an assignment beginning at noon.
- 9am lady says she’ll send me a timesheet, which is my main priority, getting paid.
- nothing arrives, i check email 80 times
- I call at 10am notifying them that I need a timesheet. They ask if they should fax it. How many people have damn fax machine in their homes?! I don’t! And my printer is out of ink. For real, this isn’t web based yet?!
- It’s now 1030. this is when i wanted to leave in case I ran into traffic or something else should happen. I want to be there on time, not late. You would think that this is something that would reflect poorly on the temp agency.
- I call, no time card. The woman on the phone says that you have to bring the timecard with you (you’d think they’d give you a bunch when you leave their office, wouldn’t you?) and have management sign it there. Because no matter who you are, this is always a last minute thing. So people who are temping a lot probably dont’ have printers and faxes at home. So pretty much this process is flawed. Can you imagine someone in freakin Parsippany who gets temp work in Manhattan and has to leave super early and doesn’t get their timecard!? What the fuck people.
I just sent an email to my friend who works there and said that I know she doens’t want me to screw anyone (words exactly) by not showing up for an assignment, but that getting paid is my #1 priority and if I dont have a timecard, I am not going.
what a mess.
Damn. That blows. Sorry to hear that.
